Former Kwaito star Lvovo Derrango has switched from the IFP to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) just months after campaigning for the IFP.
His move surprised many who saw him campaigning hard for the IFP before the May elections.
The singer, whose real name is Thokozani Ndlovu, was spotted in his hometown Newcastle handing out MKP T-shirts and drumming up support for the party’s first birthday rally.
“Guys we are all invited to the 1st anniversary of uMkhonto weSizwe Party at Moses Mabhida on December 15. Let us all go there. Jikijela Mkhonto Jikijela,” Lvovo said in a TikTok video while wearing party colours.
Being a serial political hopper is not new to the Newcastle-born kwaito singer
This isn’t his first political switch. Lvovo was once a strong ANC member alongside other Durban artists like DJ Sox, DJ Siyanda and Tzozo under ANCYL eThekwini leader Amanda Bani Mapena.
The singer shot to fame in 2009 with several hit songs that played across South African radio stations.
But his music career has struggled recently, and he suffered a stroke. He now works on stroke awareness campaigns.
He was also previously involved in the taxi business with the Gcaba brothers.
