Kwaito star Doc Shebeleza is recovering after a health scare that put him in hospital.
The 51-year-old musician, whose real name is Victor Bogopane, has been moved out of ICU following an operation at a Johannesburg hospital.
Family spokesperson Shakes Mavundla expressed shock at how quickly his health changed.
“I’m shocked as he was looking happy and healthy and preparing for the Aboguluva event in Soweto, but we are hopeful he will make it after the operation,” said Mavundla.
The family has asked South Africans to pray for the star while he recovers. Friends in the music industry say he is receiving the best medical care.
Shebeleza rose to fame in the 1990s with hit songs like “Ebumnandini” and “Kumnandi Lana”. He has inspired many young artists in the Kwaito scene.
This is his most serious health challenge yet, but his family remains optimistic about his recovery.
