Kolbe and Arendse lighting it up on the wings for the Boks

By Rorisang Modiba

  • Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse have 17 caps together as Springbok wings and 44 tries between them
  • Kolbe says they need to take every chance if they want to beat Ireland for the first time in 13 years at Aviva Stadium

Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse keep giving South Africans something to look forward to.
The two wings run out again this weekend, carrying the kind of form that turns tight matches on their heads.

They now share 17 caps as a wing pair, the second most in Springbok history. Only Bryan Habana and JP Pietersen had more, with 44 caps together.

Kolbe and Arendse have also scored 44 tries between them. It is a simple reminder of how dangerous they are when they get the ball in space.

Their challenge this weekend is a big one. The Springboks have not won at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in 13 years.

Kolbe knows how tough it can be. “Personally, I haven’t won here,” he said. “We came close in 2022, but didn’t take our chances and missed a few shots at goal. That cost us.”

He said a win would mean a lot for the team’s growth.
For now, he said the team is focused on training well and arriving confident.

Kolbe said matches between South Africa and Ireland are always tough. “Wherever we play them, it’s always 50/50. They’re a strong, well-structured team. If you’re not ready, they’ll punish you.”

The match kicks off at 19:40 South African time on Saturday.
