The couple had two children already and didn’t plan on having any more – but nature had other ideas.

31-year-old Madithebe Rahube from Klerksdorp gave birth to quadruplets: three girls and a boy at Klerksdorp Hospital on 12 March.

Madithebe said the babies, Omogolo, who’s the boy, and Releneilwe, Keone and Leatlegile are a blessing but will certainly keep her busy.

“It is hard to get a night’s sleep. The babies cry for attention,” she said.

Madithebe said she didn’t want to believe that she was pregnant but she consulted a doctor because she didn’t feel well.

“The doctor did a scan and congratulated me for being pregnant with twins,” she said.

During a check-up the following week with a gynaecologist, they discovered that there were three foetuses.

“I thought the gynaecologist was joking, but a month later they discovered another foetus,” she added.

At this point, the mother, who already has two children, said she was terrified by the thought of being the mother of six kids.

“At five months my tummy looked like I was ready to go into labour and I struggled to walk,” she said.

“Fortunately, through the support of my husband and family I was able to see the pregnancy through to 30 weeks.”

She said she knew that there was a possibility of twins as there were twins on both sides of the family, but she never thought she would have quadruplets.
