Matt Henry’s masterful death bowling led New Zealand to a nail-biting three-run win over the Proteas in the T20I tri-series final on Saturday.Henry, named player of the match and player of the series, defended seven runs in the final over, taking two crucial wickets and conceding just three runs.
His brilliant bowling, combined with outstanding fielding, secured New Zealand’s unbeaten run in the three-team competition.
Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway’s impressive knocks set up New Zealand’s 180-5 total, with Ravindra scoring 47 off 27 and Conway scoring 47 off 31 deliveries.
South Africa’s youngsters, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis, put up a strong fight, with Pretorius registering his maiden T20I half-century.
However, Henry’s heroics ultimately led to New Zealand’s victory.
Henry finished with 10 wickets in the series, cementing his standout performance. This win highlights New Zealand’s strong team performance and depth, with key contributions from players like Mitch Santner, who post-match, praised his team’s readiness and clarity in executing their strategy on the pitch.
