- King Monopoly features on Black Motion’s new single ‘Khululeka’, alongside hitmaker Professor.
- The Thembisa artist has worked across six genres and plans to add two more to his list.
Themba Chipeya, who performs as King Monopoly, is making waves in the local music scene.
He features on the upcoming Black Motion track “Khululeka” with veteran artist Professor. The song is part of Black Motion’s much-awaited new album.
Chipeya is also working with big names like Oskido and Mdu Trp, who featured him on their latest releases.
He said one of his most powerful songs, “Ama’Phoyisa”, was inspired by Mafikizolo and is about friends or neighbours who dislike seeing others succeed.
“The meaning behind the lyrics are more focused on hate from neighbours or friends who are against your happiness and prosperity,” said Chipeya.
He said that same song earned him a call from legendary artist Oskido, who praised his writing and featured it on an album released under Chipeya’s own label, New Beginnings.
Chipeya is a man of many sounds. He has written or performed in amapiano, hip hop, Afro-soul, kwaito, pop and tech. He’s now working on gospel and Afrobeat too.
His first Afrobeat songs are due for release in September.
He said his aim is not to stick to one sound but to become one of the most versatile artists in the country.
Chipeya is also busy performing at clubs and events. He is currently working with Chill N Smoke at a new club in Mofolo North called BleuRoom.
