Rosemary Ndlovu, the former cop we dubbed the Killsurance queen, faces a long prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple murders.

Judge Ramarumo Monama, of the Johannesburg High Court sitting at Palmridge, said on Friday she was guilty of murdering a string of relatives for their insurance payouts. The court also found her guilty of defrauding several insurance companies, which arranged the policies before she killed her targets.

She’s guilty of murdering:

  • Witness Madaka Homu, a cousin, in April 2012
  • Audrey Somisa Ndlovu, a sister, in June 2013
  • Yingwani Maurice Mabasa, her boyfriend, in October 2015
  • Brilliant Mashego, a nephew, in January 2016
  • Zanele Motha, a niece, in June 2016

Ndlovu was also found guilty of:

  • Inciting the murder of her sister and five children in Mpumalanga
  • Conspiracy to murder her mother

As usual Ndlovu looked calm. She was dressed in her favourite floral dress, shiny black high heels, and a glittering gold wristwatch.

Among the people who attended the judgment were her former commander Colonel Boloka, her brother SAPS Director Ndlovu, and her late boyfriend’s brother Justice Mabasa.

Before the court was dismissed, Judge Monama praised the hard work of the investigating officer detective sergeant Kesh Mabunda, and the state Advocate Riana Williams.

The judge even thanked Ndlovu’s lawyer Advocate Soko whom the judge said at one point wanted to give up on the case.

The case was adjourned to 5 November for pre-sentencing.
