  • Five people attacked a 59-year-old man in his home, demanding money he got from a car accident payout.
  • Four suspects were caught but a young killer known as “Lepai” escaped and may be hiding in Alexandra, Edenvale or Olivenhoutbos.

Police are hunting for a 22-year-old murder suspect who fled to Gauteng after killing a man in Polokwane.

The victim, 59, was strangled in his home in Sebayeng in July 2024 when five people—two men and three women—demanded money he got from a car accident payout.

“The suspects demanded a payout of the lump sum money the victim had just received following a motor vehicle accident,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Hlulani Mashaba.

When the man refused to hand over the money, the gang strangled him and ran away.

Police caught four suspects in December: Wilson Mashao Malatji, 24, Tebatso Mahakwana, 23, Flora Mabitsela, 39, and Kate Maboa, 41.

But Tebogo “Lepai” Maboa, 22, got away. Police think he ran to Gauteng and is hiding in Alexandra, Edenvale, or Olivenhoutbos.

The four caught suspects appeared in Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Friday. They will apply for bail on 28 January.

Police ask anyone who knows where Tebogo “Lepai” Maboa is to call Sergeant Francina Selepe on 067 083 9692 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.

People can also use the MySAPS app or go to their nearest police station.
