American rapper Kendrick Lamar made history at the Super Bowl halftime show, becoming the first solo rapper to headline the event.
His performance drew more than 120 million viewers and featured a mix of hits and surprising moments. The biggest shock came when he performed Not Like Us, his controversial song about Drake that led to a court case last year.
Lamar changed some words in the song to avoid legal trouble but kept the much-talked-about line: “Tryin’ to strike a chord and it’s probably A minor.” The crowd went wild when he said it.
Tennis champion Serena Williams joined the show with a Crip Walk dance, while movie star Samuel L. Jackson acted as the show’s host.
The performance had everything from dancers to fireworks. Lamar sang deep songs like HUMBLE. and DNA. from his DAMN. album, plus crowd favourites that got people dancing.
Singer SZA joined Lamar for their hit song All The Stars. Her smooth dancing and singing balanced out Lamar’s powerful performance style.
Even with all the drama around his Drake songs Not Like Us and Euphoria, Lamar showed why he’s one of music’s biggest stars today.
