South African singer Kelly Khumalo has ended her 17-year working relationship with her manager, creative director and designer, Kgothatso Tsotetsi.
The relationship came to an end in early May after Kelly reportedly discovered that Tsotetsi had been taking money from clients without telling her.
Sources close to Kelly say Tsotetsi was accepting payments for services like styling and bookings behind her back, and keeping the money for himself, Fakaza reported.
Tsotetsi had full access to many parts of Kelly’s career, including her image, outfits and finances. This may have made it easier for him to handle payments without her knowing, the sources say.
The two are no longer on speaking terms, and the split has reportedly been painful for both of them after so many years together.
Tsotetsi has denied stealing from the singer. He says the decision to go their separate ways was mutual.
He claims he left to focus on his fashion label.
“If Kelly feels I’ve stolen her money, it’s fine,” he said.
