‘It is easier to get rid of one manager than 15 players’ – Bruno

Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes has said that he “feels responsible” for the sacking of former head coach Erik Ten Hag.

Following his goal in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Fernandes opened up on the departure of his former boss; and accepted responsibility on behalf of the team.

“It is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 players. I spoke to the manager and apologised to him,” Fernandes said post-match.

“I was disappointed he has gone and I tried to help him. I wasn’t scoring goals, we are not scoring goals and I feel responsible.”

The Portuguese international scored from the penalty spot 70 minutes into the game at Old Trafford before Moises Caicedo levelled matters for Chelsea with a volley a few minutes later.

After a big win in the cup, this was United’s first league game without Ten Hag. It was also the first time in the league that Fernandes had found the back of the net.

“We know that Erik has gone; it is not good for anyone at the club when the manager goes. The team is not the best, the results are not the best and he is the one who pays for it.”

“Whenever you see a manager go you have to take some of the blame on yourself; it is because the team is not doing so well.”

United next take on PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Leicester City in the league on Sunday.

Both games will continue to be managed by interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, with new manager Ruben Amorim only set to take charge following the November international break.
