Manchester City and their fans have been living the dream for the last couple of years, but that is all about to change.
Regardless of whether City gets punished for more than 100 alleged breaches of financial regulations or not, this seems to indicate the start of the club’s downfall.
Manchester City have dominated English football for close to a decade now, winning six Premier League titles since their maiden triumph in the 2011/12 season.
However, Pep Guardiola and his City side were not at their best last season and even more so this season.
Last season the title decider came down to the very final game where City claimed victory after being 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go.
But things have not improved for City this season, despite signing the talented striker Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian was tipped to take City to new heights but despite scoring over 20 goals this season, City look worse off.
Arsenal losing against Everton looked to be a light at the end of the tunnel over the weekend but City succumbed to defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
It only got worse on Monday when reports showed that City were in breach of Premier League financial regulations following a four-year investigation.
While the punishments look severe it is unlikely City will face the wrath of them all, the worst being possible expulsion from the Premier League.
The process will now be handled by an independent commission and is set to drag on for quite some time, more bad news for City.
Performing poorly should be the concern for City at the moment but they will attempt to not be distracted by the possible punishments.
And on top of that, there seems to be an issue with player morale in the City camp as well. João Cancelo was recently shipped off to Bayern Munich after a fallout with Guardiola.
Now recent reports suggest Haaland is unhappy with the Spanish boss as well as their relationship being described as “distant”.
The youngster is said to be unhappy with the style of play Guardiola implements, as it may not suit Haaland’s needs.
Rock bottom is edging closer and closer for City who need a miracle to improve their circumstances.
