India beat Ireland by eight wickets on another difficult wicket for the batsmen in New York on Wednesday.

The Indian pacers had a field day after Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to put Paul Stirling’s side into bat first.

Arshdeep Singh was impressive with the new ball, dismissing the openers in the powerplay before Hardik Pandya and Japrit Bumrah shone in the middle overs.

Pandya took three, but Bumrah was voted man of the match for his excellent spell, producing 2/6 in three overs.

Ireland were bowled out for just 96; and while the pitch was a tough one, the men in blue knew how to go about their innings.

Virat Kohli opened with Rohit and struggled to get in, going out for just one early on.

The skipper took well to proceedings though, spending time in the middle for his unbeaten half century before Rishabh Pant got the winning runs with almost eight overs to spare.

India would have enjoyed coming to terms with the surface ahead of their colossal clash against rivals Pakistan on Sunday. The encounter is set for the same venue with action once again kicking off at 4.30pm.

Pakistan will play their opener in Dallas on Thursday, with co-hosts USA their opponents.
