The Independent Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal has distanced itself from the killing of three people in Pietermaritzburg next to its voting station on Monday.
KZN IEC spokesperson, Thabani Ngwira, said the killing didn’t affect their voting station.
It is alleged that three men parked their vehicle under a tree next to a voting station in Azalea when the police approached them.
The three men got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the police officers and the cops retaliated and shot the trio dead.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the circumstances that led to the death of three three men.
Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa said the reason why the men were in a vehicle that had no number plates and had parked next to a voting station was not known.
She said Ipid was investigating a case of death as a result of police action.
“More information will become available as we continue our investigations,” said Langa.
