Idols star back on stage at gospel show

Idols SA runner-up Nozi Sibiya said she is both excited and nervous about performing at the Gospel Crown Music Awards on Sunday.

The Umlazi singer stole the hearts of viewers during the competition with her rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s song Giving Myself.

When she performs at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre, it will be before her home crowd for the first time.

“I have been longing to express my gratitude to the people of KZN who embraced me with tons of love throughout the competition. Credit to the Gospel Crown awards organisers for affording me the chance to share the stage with the best in the game,” she said.

“I am nervous and I am excited. It’s an indescribable feeling and I hope God gives me strength to deliver a breath-taking performance.”

Riding on her instant fame, Nozi says she wants to grab every opportunity that comes her way.

“Since I’m in the performing arts I am versatile enough to do anything thrown at me. For now I will focus on launching my single and then later look out for acting gigs,” she said.

She said she auditioned for “The Clash of the Choirs” Season 3 not so long ago.

“Not everybody knows that I have worked as a back-up singer for established singers like Dumi Mkokstad, Kelly Khumalo, Khaya Mthethwa and Naima Kay. I learnt from them big time and I think I’m ready to spread my wings,” said Nozi.
