A 44-year-old police sergeant is on the run after shooting his wife and their domestic helper in Masisi village, near Thohoyandou in Limpopo.

The incident, which happened on Wednesday night, 23 October has left the community reeling.

Police spokesperson Vuledzani Dathi told Scrolla.Africa that the suspect, who was stationed in the Masisi area, was evading them but that they were working hard to capture him.

“The suspect called his colleagues at the station and told them he had killed his wife and their helper inside their home. He also asked police to collect his child, who was still at the crime scene,” Dathi said.

“We cannot rule out domestic violence, but we are confident that our investigation will uncover the main reasons behind the shooting,” Dathi added.

The wife, identified as Humbulani Nenzhelele, worked at the Masisi Clinic as an emergency service worker. The helper, Ndifelani Mudzhweda, was found shot in her right cheek and arm. Both women were lying in a pool of blood when police arrived, and four cartridges were found at the scene.

“Our investigation will also look into why the helper was killed. We will uncover everything with time,” Dathi said.

A local resident, Nelson Tshisikhawe, who knew the couple and their helper, expressed his shock. “I still cannot believe what happened. If people have problems, they should get help because killing one another is not the answer,” Tshisikhawe said.
