Somizi Mhlongo was axed by Idols SA in dramatic style in 2021 after becoming embroiled in a scandal with his estranged husband, Mohale Motaung.
Mhlongo is now reportedly set to make a comeback as the judge of the singing competition, which will host its first auditions on Sunday.
Idols SA spokesperson Lucky Mangena could not confirm Somizi’s return to the show, but he did confirm the first auditions date for the first day of Season 18 of the show to City Press.
Somizi is currently busy shooting the next season five for his glamorous reality TV show Living The Dream With Somizi.
The accomplished host will reportedly be replacing Unathi Nkayi on Idols SA. Nkayi has already lost her Kaya FM radio presenting gig, following a heated studio argument with fellow presenter Sizwe Dhlomo in November 2021.
Somizi will reportedly be returning to the show to give it a lifeline, following a steady loss of viewers after his departure from the Season 17 judging panel.
