  • Heavy rain has damaged homes and infrastructure in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, with more rain still expected.
  • Residents across several provinces are warned about floods, storms, strong winds and fire danger.

The South African Weather Service has warned that ongoing heavy rain has turned Limpopo and Mpumalanga into national disaster areas.

Flooding has already damaged homes, roads and other infrastructure.

More rain is expected, especially in the eastern and northern parts of Limpopo.

Weather officials warned residents to be careful as heavy rain can flood roads, bridges and low-lying areas.

Severe thunderstorms with hail and strong winds are expected in south-western Limpopo.

In the Western Cape, strong coastal winds could make it dangerous for boats at sea.

At the same time, north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape face extremely high fire danger.

Weather conditions will differ across the country.

Gauteng will be cloudy and cool to warm, clearing later in the day.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the north-west.

Limpopo will be warm with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

The North West will be warm to hot with isolated storms in central and eastern areas.

The Free State will be warm, with morning fog in the east and isolated storms later.

The Northern Cape will be hot and mostly fine, with strong coastal winds.

The Western Cape will be cool to warm and partly cloudy, with strong coastal winds.

The Eastern Cape will be partly cloudy, with some rain and isolated storms in the north-east.

KwaZulu-Natal will be cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms, and moderate to strong coastal winds.

People are warned to avoid flood-prone areas, take care during storms and remain cautious where fire danger is high.
