Hear Ye! Kanye will drop three letters of his name before he drops Donda

Kanye West has announced that he is legally changing his name to “Ye” – as he continues  to keep his legions of fans waiting for his much-anticipated, and much-delayed, tenth studio album, Donda.

While stalling on the project’s release, the hip hop legend has dropped headline-grabbing merchandise, including a “Donda” Lego toy wearing a Balenciaga vest, and a signed Donda bulletproof vest.

And now the 22-time Grammy winner is dropping the “Kan” in his name.

The rapper allegedly cited “personal reasons” in the Los Angeles court where he filed to change his name on Tuesday, according to BBC News.

Kanye had previously hinted in interviews that he prefers to refer to himself as “Ye”.

He told US radio host Big Boy in an interview that his name “went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything”.

He added that “Ye” means “you” in the Bible.

Other than the few who have been able to attend the album’s listening parties, no one has heard a single song.

Ye’s manager Abou Thiam revealed on 19 August that the album will be dropped after its third listening party, which is scheduled to take place on 26 August at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
