Leaks from Prince Harry’s upcoming book, “Spare”, have lifted the veil on major fallouts within the British royal family.
Perhaps the most shocking revelation was Harry’s claim that his brother, Prince William, “knocked him to the floor” in a scuffle in the family kitchen.
The physical altercation is said to have been sparked by William’s comments about Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
Harry described his brother grabbing his collar and ripping his necklace before knocking him to the ground at a London cottage, BBC reported.
In the book Harry also claims that both he and his brother urged their father not to marry Camilla after the death of their mother, Princess Diana. Charles, now King Charles but then the Prince of Wales, had had an affair with Camilla while he was married to Diana, something that Harry felt he could not forgive them for.
Diana passed away in a car accident in 1997, when Harry was only 12.
Harry continued speaking about his late mother, recalling the time he spoke to a woman “with powers” years after Diana’s death to receive a message from his mother.
“Your mother says that you are living the life that she couldn’t live,” Harry wrote that the woman told him – and that he was living the life that Diana had wanted for him.
Harry wrote about his drug use as a teenager and as a young adult, claiming he was offered cocaine at the age of 17.
“It wasn’t much fun and it did not make me feel especially happy as it seemed to do to everyone else, but it did make me feel different, and that was my main objective,” he wrote.
“I was a 17-year-old boy ready to try anything that altered the pre-established order.”
Years later, as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan in 2012 and 2013, he admitted that he killed 25 people – identified as members of the Taliban – during the conflict.
He wrote that his experiences in Afghanistan did not fill him with pride, nor did they leave him feeling ashamed.
“When I found myself plunged in the heat and confusion of combat, I didn’t think of those 25 as people. They were chess pieces removed from the board, bad people [to be] eliminated before they could kill good people.”
There are more revelations to come when “Spare” is officially released, and tension among the royal family – currently at a high pitch – is set to rise even further.
But the book has been panned by many commentators. Rina Sun wrote that the book revealed a “childish, desperate and sick man. No vulnerability, no accountability, perhaps the longest hypocritical whineathon in history. I am grateful our late beloved Queen did not have to see this.”
