Gwangwa, Kekana and Mahlangu celebrated

Steve Kekana, Jonas Gwangwa and Dr Esther Mahlangu were among top recipients of the 2020 edition of the South African Traditional Awards  (SATMA). 

The 15th anniversary of the SATMAs were held in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. 

Kekana scooped the Best Male Artist of All Time whilst Gwangwa was honoured with the Best African Jazz Artist of All time and Dr Mahlangu received best African outfit for her colourful IsiNdebele tradition.

Kekana said he was ecstatic about the award and hopes for growth in all gendres. 

“There’s is one thing I’ll tell you about music, it unfies us. And there’s no way the tradional music industry will die and diminish as other people are saying. It’s been a difficult year for the artist with Covid-19 but I’m proud they worked  extremely hard under the circumstances,” Kekana told the gathering.

Thokozani Langa and Tshepo Tsola were bestowed with  best tradional maskandi music and best Sesotho tradional music.
