  • Three men carrying a photograph tracked down an Ethiopian shop owner and shot him dead inside a building on Sunday.
  • A shooter walked into a fast food restaurant on Monday and gunned down three sitting Ethiopian men before running away.

Hitmen have gunned down four Ethiopian men in two targeted attacks in the Johannesburg CBD.

The killings happened over just two days.

The first hit took place on Sunday near Rahima Moosa and Von Wielligh streets.

Three men arrived looking for an Ethiopian shop owner. The men carried a photograph of their target. They showed the picture to people and asked where to find him.

Two of the men then walked into the building where the trader worked. They cornered him and shot him at close range. Emergency teams arrived but the man was already dead.

The bloodshed did not stop there.

A lone gunman walked into a fast food restaurant at Rahima Moosa and Small streets on Monday.

Three Ethiopian men were sitting inside the shop. The shooter opened fire on the group.

Police rushed to the restaurant, but the killer slipped away. Emergency workers declared all three victims dead.

City of Johannesburg public safety MMC Moshe Koma says the shooters knew exactly who they wanted to kill.

He says police are looking into two possible motives. The hits could be linked to a business fight. They could also be tied to a kidnapping case currently in court.

“The city will not tolerate such targeted violence in our CBD or anywhere else,” Koma said.

Police and metro officers are now hunting the killers. Detectives are pulling CCTV footage to track the suspects down.

Police want residents and workers to come forward with tips. They promise that anyone who shares information can stay completely anonymous.
