Three families are mourning after a cash-in-transit guard killed his two colleagues and then himself in Midrand on Thursday evening.

The shooting happened behind the Gallagher Convention Centre on Kingsway Street. All three men worked for SBV Services.

Police said the men had just finished their shift and were still wearing their uniforms. They were drinking together when they started arguing.

The 36-year-old guard pulled out his gun and shot his two colleagues. One was 29-years-old and the other was 31.

He then turned the gun on himself.

Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting. All three men were declared dead.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the deaths. He said police responded to the scene and found the three men already dead when emergency services arrived.

Police are investigating what caused the argument.

It is not clear where the men got the alcohol or how long they had been drinking before the fight started.

SBV Services has not released a statement about the deaths.

The company provides cash-in-transit services across South Africa. Guards transport money between banks, shops and ATMs.
