‘Gossip kills women’s business’

Durban entrepreneur Miranda van Niekerk says women must not turn their businesses into places for gossip.

“This is why many women’s businesses fail to grow,” she said at the opening of her Tres Beaux Studio Salon in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal.

Van Niekerk started her hair salon in her home garage and ensured it was always professional. As her business grew, she moved to a larger space and now employs 10 people.

“If I had allowed my business to become a place for gossip, I wouldn’t have been successful,” she said.

Van Niekerk encouraged women to focus on how they can grow, no matter where their businesses are.

She is proud that her business – offering hair services, massages, and beauty treatments – provides jobs for young women and contributes to the economy in Umhlanga.
