Famous gospel singer Benjamin Dube will perform with the Zulu Kingdom Choir at the Durban Playhouse this Saturday.
The singers are coming together for the fourth annual Songs and Hymns music event. The show will start in the afternoon.
The Zulu Kingdom Choir was started in 2020 during the Covid-19 outbreak to help heal the country. They are known for singing Zulu hymns and bringing people together through their music.
The group sings traditional songs like “O Jesu, Nkulunkulu wami” and “Ngeke Silikhohlwe”.
Choir founder Sphiwe Bhulose said the weekend concert will focus on blessings. The group also wants to use the event to fight problems like gender-based violence in communities.
“Our music is the biggest tool to unite different people of different cultures even beyond racial lines,” he said.
Bhulose said the group usually holds their big event after the Easter weekend to lift people’s spirits. He also said the choir works with schools, including Adams College.
The theme for this year’s show is the number seven, which the choir sees as a sign of blessings. Seven pastors and seven gospel artists will take the stage.
Other popular singers performing at the event include Dr Tumi, Nothando Hlophe, Ayanda Ntanzi, Sindi Ntombela and Joyous Celebration member Nozipho Phiri.
The concert will mix different music styles, including choral and opera sounds. It is planned for people who enjoy preaching, Bible readings and gospel music.
Tickets for the show cost between R300 and R600. They are available at Webtickets, Boxer and Pick n Pay stores.
