The Gcaba family have distanced themselves from allegations that their younger brother Mfundo was involved in the murder of AKA.
Award-winning musician Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello Motsoane, were murdered outside the Wish restaurant in Durban last year.
On Sunday, Mandla Gcaba said they were shocked that the prosecution had decided to implicate their younger brother Mfundo because of an R800,000 deposit into his bank account.
“Mfundo is an adult and a successful businessman who is involved in various sectors, including coal mining and the taxi industry. The financial transactions between him and Muziwethemba Gwabeni were for business purposes. There have been many transactions over a long period of time that can be verified through bank records. This transaction was neither unique nor isolated,” said Gcaba.
He said that the family is concerned that the authorities have not approached Mfundo to get his side of the story, emphasising that their younger brother has assured them that he has no connections to illegal activities.
Mfundo’s name came to the fore after the prosecution team alleged that the money paid to AKA and Motsoane’s killers was paid via Mfundo’s bank account.
