If Kaizer Chiefs are really looking to replace Gavin Hunt with Stuart Baxter, Hunt will go down as the worst coach the team has had for a long, long time.
A 1-1 draw against Swallows on Wednesday night saw Chiefs well on course for their worst PSL finish with just three games remaining. They are in 10th place on the log standings with six wins, 12 draws and nine defeats.
Hunt joined the already bruised Chiefs after they lost the league title on the last day, but the players never recovered and they have taken Hunt down with them.
Rumours are doing the rounds that Hunt may be sacked and Baxter may take his seat.
“Kaizer Chiefs could be in for their fifth coaching change in just three years with the return of Stuart Baxter being touted at Naturena,” reported IdiskiTimes.
When asked about Baxter’s report after the Swallows match, Hunt said: “No, I don’t know anything. I’m not on social media.”
Hunt’s strong point in winning the league title four times was his solid defence, but at Chiefs his defence has conceded 33 goals.
Asked why Chiefs were among the teams with the worst defensive record, he seemed to have run out of words.
“That’s a difficult question to answer. I don’t know. I guess we will continue working,” mumbled Hunt.
Not all has gone wrong for Hunt this season. He is in the club history books as the only coach to lead them to the CAF Champions League group stages and they also qualified for the quarter-finals.
They host Tanzanian outfit Simba SC on Saturday in the first leg at FNB at 6pm.
