Gauteng police have arrested a gang of 44 men who allegedly stormed a Kempton Park warehouse and robbed it of liquor worth millions of rands.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said police in Gauteng, working with private security officers, intercepted and arrested the gang as they were loading liquor worth more than R15-million into four different trucks in the early hours of Wednesday, 26 June.

He said the suspects had robbed a warehouse in Kempton Park.

“Police received information about the suspects who were planning to rob a warehouse where liquor is stored.

“The team comprising members of the South African Police Service, Fidelity Specialised Service, CAP Specialised Service and Tracksquad Security followed the information and pounced on the suspects, who were busy loading the liquor into the trucks. Two of the trucks that were already loaded with liquor drove off, and police gave chase.

“One of the trucks crashed on the R21 in Kempton Park. The other truck was found in Norkempark, where one suspect was arrested,” said Masondo

He said police also seized two VW Polo vehicles used to commit the crime.

Masondo said the suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon. They face charges of business robbery, possession of stolen property, and contravening the Immigration Act.
