- A 47-year-old man appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court accused of deliberately infecting his girlfriend with HIV.
- He allegedly told her he was HIV negative throughout their relationship, before admitting he had intentionally infected her when confronted.
A 47-year-old man from Boschkop has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder, accused of deliberately infecting his girlfriend with HIV.
The National Prosecuting Authority says the man and the 38-year-old complainant were in a relationship between October 2025 and June 2026. During that time, he allegedly told her he was HIV negative.
On 26 June 2026, the complainant found antiretroviral medication in his bag and confronted him. He allegedly admitted he was HIV positive, and told her he had intentionally infected her because he did not want her to be with anyone else.
On 25 July, the complainant tested positive for HIV at a medical facility. She reported the matter to police the following day, and the man was arrested at their home that same day.
The case was postponed to 3 August for bail information to be obtained. He remains in custody.
