- Gauteng temperatures will jump from 9°C on Monday to 30°C by Friday as winter weather finally ends this week.
- Other provinces will still experience cool conditions with morning fog while Gauteng gets ready for a post-winter heat wave.
Gauteng residents better get ready for some serious heat this week as winter finally packs its bags and leaves.
After months of freezing cold that had everyone hunting for extra blankets and warm clothes, the province is about to get a major temperature shake-up.
This winter was brutal, forcing South Africans to bundle up in layers just to stay warm. But at least there was one good thing – no load shedding to worry about while trying to keep the heaters running.
People in Gauteng kept hoping for snow this winter, but all they got was some disappointing sleet instead of the white winter magic they wanted.
Now that we’re halfway through August, get ready for some serious heat coming to Gauteng, with temperatures climbing close to 30°C.
Weather experts say the big warm-up starts on Wednesday.
Gauteng Weather posted on X: “Breaking: significant warming in Gauteng from Wednesday. Highest ‘post-winter’ daytime temperatures expected, with mercury potentially peaking at 29°C in Pretoria by Friday!”
Here’s what to expect: Joburg will start Monday at a chilly 9°C, but by Friday it’ll be hitting 30°C.
Pretoria will follow the same pattern – starting at 11°C on Monday and climbing all the way to a hot 30°C by Friday.
But don’t rush to pack away all those warm clothes just yet – you might still need them.
Other parts of the country won’t be getting the same heat treatment. The South African Weather Service says to expect fog in the morning and cool weather in other provinces on Monday.
The rest of South Africa will see a mix of fog, some clouds, and different temperatures as winter weather still hangs around in those areas.
Morning fog is expected in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Northern Cape coastal areas, the Western Cape, and parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
