Brazilian goalkeeper Ramón Souza was shot in the leg with a rubber bullet by a police officer when a fight broke out after a match.
Souza’s second-division club, Grêmio Anápolis, called the incident a “criminal act”.
The shooting happened after Centro Oeste’s 2-1 win on Wednesday.
Police stepped in to stop a fight between players from both teams after the final whistle.
A video shows the officer shooting a rubber bullet at Souza’s leg, making him limp and bleed.
He was taken by ambulance to a medical centre for treatment.
Grêmio Anápolis called the shooting “regrettable, ridiculous, and revolting”.
The club said it would take action to ensure justice and punishment for the officer involved.
Police have opened an investigation and said they do not support any misconduct by their officers.
