  • Ngubeni is accused of stealing R700,000 from a casting company while working as a director on Queen Modjadji.
  • She allegedly changed banking details on invoices to steal payments meant for extras and added fake agencies.

Former Scandal actress Nolwazi Ngubeni has been accused of pocketing R700,000 in a casting scam.

Ngubeni appeared at the Brixton Magistrates’ Court on Friday. Her case has been postponed to 25 September while investigations continue.

She is facing charges of cyber forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft.

Ngubeni was working as a casting director for Rhythm World Production when the alleged crimes occurred in March. She was also involved with Masakhane Casting and Make Your Art (Pty) Ltd.

In her role, she was meant to recruit people to perform as extras in various productions. But when Rhythm World paid her, she allegedly kept the money for herself.

She is accused of taking R700,000 meant for extras working on the set of Queen Modjadji.

It is also claimed she tampered with invoices by changing the banking details. She reportedly replaced the real casting agencies with unknown names, meaning those who did the work never got paid.

The fraud only came to light when the unpaid agencies started asking questions.

Ngubeni is out on R5,000 bail while police continue the probe.

Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said: “We are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
