Crystal Tlali, the former lead singer for the Soweto Gospel Choir, is battling an addiction to alcohol.

A recent video, which went viral on social media, showed Crystal, 38, asking for help to fight her addiction.

Crystal is known for her powerful performances with the gospel choir, particularly the song “Modimo Re Boka Wena”.

Crystal has reportedly returned to her hometown in QwaQwa, Free State, after losing her job in Gauteng.

Crystal’s mother, Manini Tlali, said her daughter was a talented young woman.

“She is good at what she does. I know that when she gets sober, she will be back to the daughter I know and also be able to take care of her son,” Manini said, Fakaza reported.

Another family member said it is not nice to come home after you have been a superstar star touring abroad.

“We need someone to help her. She wakes up early and starts drinking. She is a mere shadow of her former self,” said the family member.

Manini said many organisations, DJs and churches have offered Crystal support during her struggles.

“The support I have received has been tremendous and I am grateful for the love. I need prayers,” the mother said.
