The DA in KwaZulu-Natal has told the ANC to forget about former President Jacob because he has made up his mind about going back to the ANC.
DA provincial leader Francois Rodgers said that the ANC must come to terms with the fact that Zuma is gone and they will lose KZN because of him.
“I even had a conversation with former premier Willies Mchunu about Zuma and it was clear that the old man had made up his mind. He is not going back to the ANC. His Umkhonto Wesizwe party won’t affect the DA but the biggest loser will be the ANC.
“He will take a lot of votes from the ANC. We are not worried about him. Also, we have popular leaders in the DA who will campaign hard to win the province,” Rodgers said.
The resurgence of Zuma in politics has lessened the popularity of DA premier candidate Chris Pappas, who was the most admired politician in KZN before Zuma made his surprise announcement to endorse the uMkhonto weSizwe Party on 16 December 2023.
ANC KZN secretary Bheki Mtolo has washed his hands of Zuma and believes he has gone for good. He said they tried to engage Zuma on several occasions but he keeps running away from them.
Mtolo said they even sent his biggest friends, Willies Mchunu and Vusi Dube, to persuade him to reconsider his decision but they made no headway.
The IFP views uMkhonto weSizwe Party as a blessing in disguise in its mission to unseat the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal.
IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa said that insulting Zuma and uMkhonto WeSizwe won’t work.
He said UMkhonto weSizwe should be regarded as a spear that is going to help opposition parties remove the ANC from power.
The ANC is already facing crises in branches that are collapsing due to the mass resignation of branch chairs and secretaries in various regions.
