A female police officer accidentally shot and killed a fellow officer and wounded another during a domestic violence call in KwaZulu-Natal.
This happened on Sunday in Bhobhoyi, Port Shepstone, when Public Order Police and K9 Unit members went to arrest someone for domestic violence.
The officer reportedly fired her gun, thinking they were under attack.
Police watchdog spokesperson Phaladi Shuping told The Citizen that eight officers had responded to the call.
“It is alleged that when police officers were busy with the tactical move to subdue the person allegedly involved in a domestic violence issue, a stun grenade was placed inside one room. One police officer allegedly thought that they were under attack,” said Shuping.
The shooting comes as the DA in KwaZulu-Natal calls for police to wear body cameras during operations to make their actions more open to the public.
