Former Selimathunzi presenter and well-known actor Xolani Ngema has been reported missing, with his family growing increasingly concerned for his safety.
Ngema, who starred in Isithembiso, The River and Rhythm City, was last seen in Pretoria on 25 October.
His sister, Nombuso Ngema, says he told them that morning that he was relocating from Pretoria to Midrand. Since then, they have heard nothing.
Nombuso shared her concern: “We are worried because it is unlike Xolani to be quiet for this long. I tried calling him on the evening of 25 October, but his phone was off.”
The family now fears he might have been kidnapped. Adding to their worry, one of Ngema’s friends received a disturbing call, suggesting he should come and “fetch Xolani because they were done with him”.
The friend initially ignored the call, assuming it was a joke, as Ngema is known for his playful nature. However, the family’s concerns deepened when someone posted from Ngema’s social media account, telling them to “voetsek.”
Nombuso said: “That’s so unlike Xolani to use such language on social media.”
The family reported his disappearance to Centurion police on Thursday, 31 October, and is awaiting further information.
