Extra-Time: The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has to do something about clubs extorting money from Kaizer Chiefs fans, writes Menzi Magubane.
Clubs have been doubling the ticket price when they host the Amakhosi.
Most ticket prices for football games around the country average between R40 and R80 but that all changes when Chiefs come to town.
It started with Royal AM at the beginning of the season where they increased ticket prices to R100.
Cape Town City followed suit and the PSL did nothing, while fans were coughing up more than they should.
Clubs have been making money but really the PSL needs to stop this before it gets out of hand. Cape Town City owner John Comitis made it clear that ticket prices differ and they are elevated when they welcome Chiefs.
“We have three price ranges for our games. Our small games are R40, Pirates are R80. Chiefs are R100 and season tickets are R500,” said Comitis on Robert Marawa’s show.
The PSL should have the power to put an end to this!
The new season has just started and the organisation should intervene. Fans were deprived of live football for two seasons during Covid-19 and shouldn’t have to check their bank accounts when they want to watch a game.
Amakhosi, on the other hand, are not increasing their ticket prices when they host teams.
If the PSL is not going to do anything about this, fans should brace themselves and expect to pay more than they are used to.
Their clubs are in it to make more money this season and fans are the ones who will be coughing out that money.
The way I see it, clubs are not being fair to their fans.
