·  Two sisters accused the woman and her sibling of stealing a phone before attacking her and insulting their mother.

·  Police arrested the suspects but released them without warning the family, who say they now live in fear.

A family from Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape say they are being terrorised because they wear fake branded clothes.

Nobuhle Langa, 28, says she was stabbed with broken bottles by two women who have been bullying her and her family.

“They keep insulting us and saying horrible things about our clothes,” said Nobuhle. “When I asked them why it bothered them, they attacked me.”

The violent attack happened after Nobuhle and her sister went shopping. She says the two suspects accused them of stealing a phone after a man claimed his went missing.

“When I defended my sister, one of them slapped me,” she said. “I fought back so they would stop bullying us.”

The phone was later found and the owner apologised. But when Nobuhle ran into the sisters again, they insulted her and accused her mother of stealing food.

“They told me they were going to beat my mother. I couldn’t take it anymore. I just asked them why they keep spreading lies and targeting us.”

That is when the stabbing happened. The suspects left her bleeding and she needed stitches.

Nobuhle reported the attack to the police after going to the clinic.

“I want to know why they were released. No one told us. Now they’re walking around threatening us. If something worse happens, who will take responsibility?”

Eastern Cape South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo confirmed that Flagstaff police opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He said two women, aged 29 and 31, were arrested and charged but the case was not enrolled because of missing evidence.

“The investigation is now complete and the docket will be handed to the National Prosecuting Authority soon for a decision,” said Matyolo.
