- The 5th Mano A Tumisho Pele community awareness event will be held on 11 October in Naledi Extension, with activities for children and families.
- Organisers are requesting donations of school bags, clothing, food, toys and sanitary towels to support children with special needs.
The Mano A Tumisho Pele Organisation has invited the public to its fifth annual community awareness event in support of children living with disabilities.
The event takes place on 11 October at Naledi Extension Car Wash, next to Kgatelopele Primary School, from 9am to 10am.
It aims to educate the community about conditions such as ADHD, epilepsy, ADD, deafness and autism, while creating ways to help affected families.
Guests from the Department of Education, Gaopalelwe Foundation, Kasi Vusa Foundation, Mohato School of Autism, Teddy Bear and Mosa wa Thuto will attend.
The programme will include drumming, dancing, bikers and a creative stall for children to paint and draw.
Founded in 2021, the Mano A Tumisho Pele Organisation focuses on mental health education and raising awareness about challenges faced by families of children with special needs.
Founder Nontsikelelo Mogale said the events have encouraged many parents to open up about their struggles and seek support.
“In the previous years, the event has helped with more people being able to talk about their challenges of raising special needs kids and coming forward to seek help,” she said.
The organisation has also assisted children with assessments and placements in special schools.
Organisers are asking for donations of school bags, clothes, non-perishable food, toiletries, educational toys and sanitary towels.
