  • Ghana, four-time African champions, have failed to qualify for the 2025 Afcon after getting only three points from five games.
  • While Ghana struggled, teams like Comoros, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mali secured their places at the tournament in Morocco.

The once-mighty Black Stars of Ghana will not play at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) after a poor qualifying campaign.

The four-time African champions sit at the bottom of Group F with just three points from five games and no wins. Their hopes of qualifying ended on Friday after a 1-1 draw with Angola in Luanda.

This failure comes after Ghana’s poor showing at the 2023 Afcon in Ivory Coast, where they were knocked out early after finishing behind Cape Verde and Egypt in their group.

The star-studded team’s final qualifying match against Niger on Monday now means nothing for them, though Niger still has a chance to qualify.

While Ghana suffered, other teams celebrated. Comoros booked their place after beating Gambia 2-1 away. They’ll join Tunisia from Group A at the tournament.

Zambia, the 2012 champions, also qualified by beating current African champions Ivory Coast 1-0 in Ndola. They top Group G and will chase their second continental trophy in Morocco.

Zimbabwe secured their spot after drawing 1-1 with Kenya at Peter Mokaba Stadium, qualifying as runners-up in Group J.

Mali also made it through by beating Mozambique in Maputo to lead Group I.
