  • 28-year-old Nomfundo Nsimbini from Nkomazi started Mfundo’s Empire after seeing a headboard online and now sells furniture, perfumes and skincare.
  • After her first business failed, she relaunched stronger in 2025 and now employs local workers while balancing a full-time logistics job.

When 28-year-old Nomfundo Pheshu Nsimbini from Nkomazi in Mpumalanga saw a stylish headboard on Facebook Marketplace, she didn’t know it would change her life.

Working full-time in logistics, she wanted more independence and a business of her own. That headboard sparked an idea, and from it, Mfundo’s Empire was born.

Her first attempt in May 2024 failed within months. But instead of giving up, she prayed, planned and started again in June 2025. This time, she was ready.

Today, Mfundo’s Empire produces affordable furniture, perfumes and skincare products, giving customers a way to decorate their homes without breaking the bank.

Nomfundo still works full-time while managing her business, often delivering orders herself after hours or on weekends. She says deliveries are tough, but her goal is to grow big enough to run weekday deliveries soon.

She now leads a small team of workers, most from her community, and believes trust, fairness and good communication are key to success.

“Honesty, quality work and good communication keep my business alive,” she said.

Nomfundo says her community’s support keeps her going. Friends and neighbours were her first customers, and now she’s creating jobs for others.

Her advice to young people is simple: start small, stay patient and never stop believing. “Be adaptable, stay organised and put your customers first,” she said. “And don’t forget to pray.”

For Nomfundo, success is not just about profit, it’s about purpose. Through hard work and faith, she has built more than a business, she’s built an empire of hope.
