The body of Sibusiso Sithebe has been exhumed by the authorities although the family did not attend the event.
Sithebe was reportedly murdered by his ex-girlfriend Lerato and her new boyfriend Sibusiso Mahlangu.
Sithebe’s family, who were not included in the invitation, expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the police informed them that their presence was unnecessary for the proceedings.
Sibusiso Mahlangu, who was believed to have died in a house fire on New Year’s Day in 2022, showed up at his own funeral in disguise and ate alongside his mourners.
Sibusiso and his wife, Lerato Mahlangu, are now the prime suspects in the murder of Sithebe, the man who was mistakenly buried in Mahlangu’s place.
The funeral took place eight days after Mahlangu’s supposed death, unbeknownst to the attendees that it was Sithebe’s body being laid to rest.
The couple, facing charges of murder and obstructing justice, allegedly fraudulently got a substantial life insurance payout.
Sithebe’s family had already reported him missing at the time. Mahlangu’s subsequent arrest came over a year later when he was found driving a stolen vehicle and in possession of Sithebe’s identity document.
