The Currie Cup clash between the Pumas and Western Province was plunged into darkness with less than a minute to go when loadshedding struck.
Western Province was on the way to only their second win in this season’s Currie Cup when Eskom looked to have taken that away from them as loadshedding struck in the area.
The clash at the Mbombela Stadium was tightly contested and going into the final minute, the floodlights shut off as the play continued.
Fans attending the game began putting their flashlights from their cellphones to light up the stadium.
After a short delay to allow the floodlights to switch back on, the play resumed, and the Western Province ended as 23-18 winners.
The Blue Bulls are currently at the summit of the Currie Cup table, holding a narrow one-point lead over the Free State Cheetahs who are one game behind the leaders.
The Pumas are in fifth place with Western Province seven points behind them in sixth.
