The Three Lions, though far from convincing, sealed a 2-0 win over Malta to end off a good year of Uefa Euro 2024 qualifiers at Wembley.
Having already progressed to next year’s finals, it is all about getting the side ready to challenge in Germany come June.
Malta started the game on the front foot but went behind to an early Enrico Pepe own goal. England kept the majority of the ball and began to seize control following the hour mark.
Harry Kane thought he had a penalty before the break, but was instead booked for simulation. The Bayern Munich man would get his goal in the final 15 though, and it would be another record-breaker for the captain.
Kane became the first ever England player to score 25 goals at Wembley and has also scored in eight straight games across all competitions for club and country.
Elsewhere in the group, Italy thrashed North Macedonia 5-2, meaning that the Azzuri’s clash with Ukraine on Monday will determine which side qualifies alongside England.
Elsewhere, Erling Haaland limped off for Norway in their friendly win over the Faroe Islands, meaning he will miss their Euro qualifier against Scotland on Sunday.
In some of the other results, Spain beat Cyprus 3-1, Portugal won 2-0 away to Liechtenstein and Denmark defeated Slovenia 2-1.
