The third and final test between England and South Africa in London was washed out without any play at The Oval today.

But news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing has delayed action until Saturday with talks ongoing on whether to cancel the final test.

Following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it has been confirmed that play will not take place on Friday, Cricket South Africa revealed.

Heavy showers last night meant the outfield was drenched at toss time, causing a half hour delay. When the toss did take place, England won it and elected to make use of the overcast conditions by bowling first.

Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad did not get to take the new ball, however, with the skies opening up just before the scheduled start of play.

Harry Brook was announced in the hosts’ side, with the 23-year-old set to make his debut in place of Jonny Bairstow.

Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Khaya Zondo and Ryan Rickelton were announced as incomings to Proteas side with Simon Harmer and Aiden Markram making way alongside Lungi Ngidi and Rassie Van Der Dussen who are out due to injury.

Pitch inspections continued throughout the day with no luck as the rain persisted.
