In the heart of Cape Town’s Nyanga township, a remarkable initiative is unfolding: the Nyanga hiking club, founded in 2020, has grown from a small group of young explorers to a movement that empowers the youth through nature.Coordinator Dani Saporetti’s vision is to create a safe, uplifting outdoor experience for township youth, fostering a deep connection with nature and promoting leadership skills.
The club’s activities range from forest walks to mountain hikes, beach clean-ups, and even surfing lessons.
These experiences not only build self-esteem and confidence but also instill a sense of community and responsibility towards the environment.
The club’s mission is inclusive, believing that every child deserves to feel free and connected to nature, regardless of their background.
Currently, the club is raising funds for a winter trip to the Two Oceans Aquarium, a dream come true for many of its young members.
Donations will support entry fees and transportation, providing an educational experience that will deepen their connection to the ocean.
