Elias Sopazi has been selling eggs at the Vuyiseka sports grounds in Philippi, Cape Town for the past five years and still thinks it is an egg-celent idea.
The retired father of eight from Philippi, Cape Town, sells eggs because he doesn’t want to borrow money while waiting for his pension money.
He sells 60 eggs per day, charging R1,50 for each egg, giving him a turnover of R90 per day.
“Selling eggs was a good decision,” he told Scrolla.Africa.
“We get paid at the beginning of the month and the food we buy doesn’t carry us through to the next pension date, but I don’t stress because I use the money I make here.”
He said it is not that the government gives him millions.
“I’m grateful for what I get but that will not stop me from making extra money and I need more money than the pension pays out,” he said.
He said he chose the stadium because players get hungry after matches.
“I take care of them and their supporters. Sometimes they finish the 60 eggs and want more but I don’t want to end up with unsold eggs,” he said.
“I appreciate the support they give me and for respecting my business.”
