Chairperson of the EFF in Newcastle is accusing his party of colluding with the ANC to fire him after he exposed a recorded call which revealed the ANC mayor was corrupt.
The corruption allegedly involved the theft of R2 million, which was meant to be used to construct a Utrecht shopping centre for farm dwellers.
But the EFF has dismissed claims that Futhi Mlambo was fired from the party for whistleblowing. They claim instead that he was dismissed for accepting the position of eMadlangeni Municipality speaker.
“I fought tooth and nail trying to expose the corruption in that municipality which led to the investigation,” Mlambo told Scrolla.Africa.
“Unfortunately my party failed to support me. They colluded with the ANC and placed me under the disciplinary processes of the organisation. That is why to this day the report about the looted R2 million was never tabled in the council.”
Mlambo is currently standing as an independent candidate for the upcoming local government elections.
EFF KZN Chairperson Vusi Khoza described Mlambo as someone who is suffering from psychological problems.
“He is an opportunist and we are shocked that he is now an independent candidate,” Khoza said.
Khoza claims that Mlambo was told not to accept the job as municipality speaker.
“We warned him and instructed him to reject that post but he was fooled by the life of having blue lights and bodyguards, so he refused.”
Khoza added that Mlambo was also given a fair process to appeal his dismissal but it was unsuccessful.
