- Four gunmen fired shots at the prosecutor’s car with his wife and 12-year-old son inside in Kariega.
- The attack follows recent murders of prosecutors Tracy Brown and Elona Sombulula in Eastern Cape province.
Four gunmen shot at a prosecutor’s car while his wife and 12-year-old son were in the car with him.
The shooting happened just after 1am on Monday in Torpedo Street, Tiryville, as the family returned home.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said the family stopped at their gate when four men walked up to them.
One gunman pulled out a weapon and fired several shots at the car before all four suspects ran away.
Miraculously, no one was hurt in the attack. Police are not releasing the prosecutor’s name for safety reasons.
The National Prosecuting Authority in the Eastern Cape refused to give more details about the case.
Spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said: “The investigation is at a sensitive stage.” He promised a full statement later.
Two weeks ago, well-known Gqeberha prosecutor Tracy Brown was shot dead outside her home in Young Park.
In April, prosecutor Elona Sombulula from Engcobo Magistrates Court was murdered.
Police continue searching for the four gunmen who carried out the attack.
The prosecutor and his family are now under police protection as the investigation continues.
