Ndileka Malgas, an e-hailing driver from Leiden in Delft, Cape Town, spends a good part of every day striking up pleasant conversations with her customers.

When one day a customer told her he was going to shoot a movie on Table Mountain, her life would be changed forever.

Ndileka spied an opportunity. She told the client how she had always wanted to be an actress.

“I gave him my number and told him to give me a call if they needed someone. I told him if they are not satisfied with me, they can let me go,” she said.

What she didn’t know was that the man was a movie director who was about to change her life.

Two weeks after the encounter, Ndileka said she received a life changing call from the movie director informing her they had a role they wanted her to play. She didn’t hesitate and before she knew where she was the cameras were rolling and she was the subject.

The movie is called The Number Two

“The experience was exciting and overwhelming. I had to hold a gun for the first time in my life. Hopefully this will open more doors for me. I want to be a movie star,” she said.

She is grateful to the director for giving her a chance to display her talent. The part she got is not only helping her to grow but also for people to know that there are e-hailing drivers out there who are doing good.

“I know that we have been trending for all the wrong reasons. I hope this will give people an understanding that not all e-hailing drivers are bad”, added Ndileka.

Nic “Floorkiller” Matthee, an award winning dancer turned movie director, told Scrolla.Africa that he loved how bold Ndileka was. After the conversation, he knew that she would be perfect for the character.

“I don’t regret giving her a chance. She fits the role like a glove,” he said.
